I can’t remember who it was that introduced me to Daedelus, several years back, but damn, I’m glad they did. His latest offering, Righteous Fists of Harmony is out now via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. One of the highlights for me on FlyLo’s mix for Pete Tong’s Essential radio program was the snippet of calm that is Daedelus’s ‘I’m String Struck’, a slow beat with a flute, strings and subtle guitar work tugs at the heart. This track now resurfaces on the Righteous Fists of Harmony EP, with a vocal contribution from Mrs. Daedelus aka Laura Darling, and is now titled ‘Order of the Golden Dawn’. This is a quality release if you like this kinda thing. What kinda thing exactly? It’s the kinda thing you would expect from a sideburn-wearing, Victorian-era loving, crate digger.
Fresh in the inbox this week is new material from Egyptrixx, who hail from Toronto. ‘The Only Way Up’ ep, features tension courtesy of stabbing synths, percussion, bleeps and remixes from Ikonika, Kingdom and Cubic Zirconia.
Cabaret Voltaire as anybody whose into electronic music knows, were at the forefront. Since doing their separate ways, Richard H. Kirk produced a solo album under the moniker Sandoz. His fascination with dub tactics comes out on the album Chant. I recall being at a Marianne Faithful concert at the Barbican in London, and at the post gig party upstairs, the Soul Jazz DJ’s played a cut, and I was so gobsmacked, I just didn’t expect to hear this spacious dubtronics coming out of the speakers. Soul Jazz later picked up the album for re-release on their label, which you can find here.
Remember Soundgarden? Well try Steve and Eydie’s version of Black Hole Sun, which was on the Loungeapalooza album. You may hate me for this, but like I care.
